New Corporate Design for Weißensee - School of Art Berlin for Weißensee - School of Art Berlin Logo, typeface, office collateral (blank letters, business cards, student ID), navigation system By |
To improve the outside communication and profile among other high ranking art schools in Germany, Weißensee - School of Art (formerly known as Kunsthochschule Berlin) commissioned a group of students of the departments Visual Communication and Industrial Design to work on a new Corporate Design that conveys some of the advantages Weißensee has to offer (interdisciplinarity, a strong sense of independence, an environment that fosters and encourages experimentation and creative problemsolving and a strong roster of instructors). The printed material is intended to work modular: a mass printed, basic sheet, bearing only the most simple permutation of the logo, is the foundation on which all other needed materials are printed. The new official typeface Weißensee Diktator is based on Conduit ITC Light by Mark von Bronkhaus. A very constructed, clear and narrow type, it is not particulary suited to be used in smaller sizes, as the forms become too unstable when frail. Also, several glyphs were absent in the type and had to be done from scratch. Every single letter had to be changed, some only in minor details (scale, slightly stronger lines, softer angles and rounder forms to stabilize them and make them look less rigid), others havebeen altered significantly. The new font Weißensee Diktator is much more stable when used in small sizes and in larger amounts of text, while retaining the clearness of its precursor.
